We purchased our property in early 1987, 20 acres of farmland with one beautiful old remnant yellow box, we fell instantly in love with this blank canvas.
Thinking “this will do” …. Perfectly.
While we learned about how to garden with heavy clay soils, flooding rains, droughts, frost, weed infestations and rabbit invasions we lost many plants in the early years
With our previous hard learnt lessons, we created what you see today not a landscaping masterpiece but something we are proud of. So come and enjoy this space an eclectic mix of plants and trees, bring a picnic and sit a while, enjoy the views to the Pyrenees mountains and realise that while gardening, as in life, has its challenges you can always find peace and joy through perseverance and determination.

My late husband and I bought the block in 1995 and after the house was built we began to make a garden. The block consisted of solid clay soil so we turned the top layer over by hand, applied mountains gypsum, compost, kitchen scraps and anything else suitable that could be found. We called the garden organised chaos, if there was empty spot, there was room for one more plant. Three years ago we lost a lot of plants in a terrible storm which flooded many areas of Creswick. We have now replanted and the garden has recovered well. I enjoy growing vegetables but often include them in my flower beds to make good use of garden space.

Mon Repose

Mon Repose is a 2.5 acre garden transformed from a bush block to a beautiful garden displaying a mix of deciduous trees, vegetables, fruit trees, sweeping lawns, fish ponds and statuary. Seats are randomly placed to enjoy the peace and quiet and you may see a range of visiting native birds.
The garden has flat and gentle graduated hilly areas. Most areas are accessible but not suitable for wheelchairs.

Ophir

Step through the gate at heritage overlaid Ophir Cottage and enter a richly imagined garden developed since late last century. Winding paths lead past ponds, fountains, a cactus court, circular hedge, garden rooms and a theatre. The pool, grotto and stonework were created on site, giving the garden a personal, handcrafted character. Ophir draws artistic inspiration from nineteenth-century garden follies while remaining distinctly its own. Visitors are invited to wander slowly, look closely and discover changing views and hidden details. Most pathways are level and accessible.

Shirley's Garden
North Creswick - 5 Minutes drive from Creswick
Lovingly created over more than 25 years, Shirley’s Garden is a testament to passion, perseverance, and the joy of gardening. With a distinctly English charm, the garden has been carefully nurtured in challenging conditions—heavy clay soil, a once-limited water supply, and exposure to harsh seasonal winds. Features an extraordinary collection of over 500 roses, along with clematis, perennials, peonies, bulbs, and many rare or unusual plants gathered from far and wide.
Set on a spacious acreage. Visitors can also enjoy a special display of handcrafted garden steelwork, plant supports and more available for purchase.

The Miners Cottage
Creswick Township
This small cottage garden is step back in time. There are two stars here, the cottage and the garden! The cottage was dated by Heritage architect Wendy Jacobs as being built between 1861 and 1879 and is a real cutie.
The garden is planted with many cottage plants, and features a rose arbour at the front showcasing the beautiful Crepuscule climbing rose. While much of the garden can be viewed from the street with a landscaped verge garden and garden beds in front, it is not until you wander through the garden that you realise it is something special.
Access: Small, flat, easily navigated garden with some stepping stones. Ample parking on the street.

Vention Cottage

Vention Cottage has been a haven for Claire and Clive for the past 15 years. In this time we have created a garden filled with large deciduous trees which have provided a canopy to indulge Claire’s love of perennials and woodland plants. Clive’s love is building, not only an early settler style hut and potting shed, but a 5 bay compost area which ultimately gives life to the garden.
In this time Clive has also built handmade brick fences and pathways, fire pits, and other features. Claire has gathered many and varied plants that love the shade such as Omphalodes, Hydrangeas, Dogwoods, Hostas, Hellebores, Clematis and my personal favourites Epimediums of all colours and varieties.

Yeramba Farmstay

A unique 45 acre lifestyle property overflowing with rustic charm.
A picturesque driveway is lined with stately European trees, spring flowering bulbs, an extensive vegetable garden, fruit trees and a beautiful selection of leucadendrons and proteas. Beyond the gardens explore a vast expanse of native bushland dominated by majestic gum trees, sweeping wildflowers and abundant bird life great for bird photography. Winding paths lead to a scenic dam filled with waterlilies.
